File size not going down?
- Pick smaller dimensions under Options.
- Raising the target size a little keeps more quality.
- If the file will not open, save it as JPG from the Photos app and add it again.
FAQ
Which format should I choose?
For photos, JPEG is the smallest and opens everywhere. For images with transparent backgrounds or lots of text, PNG stays sharp. PNG and GIF have no quality slider, so the dimensions are reduced to meet the target size. WebP appears only in browsers that can create it.
Can I set width and height separately?
Turn off "Keep aspect ratio" under Dimensions and type the width and height. If the ratio differs from the original, the image is cropped from the center to fit; choose "Stretch to fit" to keep everything without cropping.
What happens to transparent backgrounds?
PNG and WebP keep them. JPEG has no transparency, so it is filled with white, and a warning appears before processing. GIF keeps only fully transparent or opaque pixels, with no semi-transparency.
How much quality is lost?
It automatically finds the highest quality that fits within the target size. If quality alone is not enough, the dimensions are reduced step by step. To change only the dimensions, set the target size to "No limit".
Does it work with iPhone photos (HEIC)?
In Safari on iPhone and Mac, yes. Other browsers cannot open HEIC, so save it as JPG from the Photos app first.
About this tool
A tool that takes an image, a target file size, pixel dimensions and a format, then adjusts quality and size to match, and lets you download the result. Neither the photo nor the result is sent to a server or stored. Everything is processed on this device.
