Convert to Markdown
Turn formatted text from web pages, Word or Google Docs, or a table from Excel, into Markdown.
Nothing here yet.
Paste formatted text or a table and it becomes Markdown.
How to use
- 01Select the part you want in the source (a web page, Word, Google Docs, Excel and so on) and copy it.
- 02Paste it into the input box. A table on its own is detected as a table, and anything else as formatted text. You can change the input type yourself.
- 03Check the result and the preview, then [Copy] it and paste it into Notion, GitHub or an AI tool.
If it does not work
Result looks wrong?
- If a table came out as text, or text was read as a table, change the input type below the input box.
- If no formatting came through at all, copy from the source again and paste. Passing the text through a plain-text editor such as Notepad removes the formatting.
- If copying does not work, use [Download file] and open the file.
FAQ
Where can I copy from?
Web pages, blog posts, Word, Google Docs and Notion for text, and Excel or Google Sheets for tables. The tool reads the formatting information that is copied along with the text.
What happens to images?
Images that have a web address are kept as . The image files are not fetched or loaded. Images without an address (pictures embedded in a document) are left out, and a note shows how many.
What about merged cells in a table?
Markdown tables cannot merge cells, so the value goes in the first cell and the rest are left blank. Line breaks inside a cell become <br>, | becomes \|, and the first row is used as the header.
Some formatting is missing.
Formatting that Markdown does not have, such as font size, color and centering, is not carried over. Some editors copy only simple formatting information, so headings or lists may come out as plain paragraphs.
What if I paste plain text?
Without formatting information the text is shown as it is. If it is a tab-separated table, set the input type to "Table" to get a Markdown table.
