If it does not work
Metadata not removed?
- Press [Re-save as JPEG to remove] under the result. The image is redrawn and saved, so no extra data remains.
- If the file will not open, save it as JPG from the Photos app and add it again.
- If you put the cleaned file back into a photo app, that app may attach new information. Share the downloaded file as is.
FAQ
What gets removed?
Location (GPS), date and time, camera and device, editing software, description and author, embedded previews, and extra data such as XMP, IPTC and comments. The color profile (ICC) and orientation are kept so colors do not change and the photo does not turn sideways.
Does the quality change?
For JPG, PNG and WebP the image data is not touched; only the metadata section is cut out, so quality stays the same. Other formats (such as HEIC) are re-saved as JPEG.
Do messaging apps and Instagram strip this anyway?
It varies by app. Sending as an original file, email, marketplace apps and cloud sharing can pass the information along as is. Removing it before you upload is the sure way.
Does it work with iPhone photos (HEIC)?
In Safari on iPhone and Mac, yes, by re-saving as JPEG. Other browsers cannot open HEIC, so save it as JPG from the Photos app first.
About this tool
A tool that finds photo metadata such as EXIF and GPS inside a photo, shows what it found, and lets you download a copy with only that information removed while the pixels stay untouched. Neither the photo nor the result is sent to a server or stored. Everything is processed on this device.
