If it does not work
Differences look odd?
- Switch the unit to "Character". It is more precise than word units.
- If line breaks differ, whole lines show as changed. Clean up the line breaks on both sides with Text Cleaner first.
- If you see only spacing differences, turn on "Spacing" under Ignore.
FAQ
How do line, word and character units differ?
"Line" shows only whole changed lines. "Word" highlights the changed words within a line, and "Character" highlights each changed character. For languages where particles attach to words, such as Korean or Japanese, "Character" is often more precise.
Can I ignore differences in spacing or case?
Turn on "Spacing" or "Case" under Options and those differences count as the same. With spacing ignored, runs of spaces are collapsed to one for comparison and display.
Can I compare Word or other document files?
Files cannot be added. Select all the text in the document, copy it and paste it here. Formatting (bold, tables) is not compared, only the text.
Does it handle long texts?
Up to 100,000 characters each. Beyond that, only the beginning is compared and a note appears. Very long changed regions are shown line by line only.
